Papoose Dismasted

This is the story of what happened to my boat on May 28 during the Master Mariners Regatta
Here is Papoose a few minutes before my collision

And here is after

Amazingly, someone took a lot of photos closely spaced and I made an animated gif from them

Watch the shadow of the mast on the deck of Seaward. Does it show that she is rotating clockwise (turning into me)? Do you notice her jib luff just before the collision as she rounds up? Did the helmsman try and avoid me but fail to ease the main and instead stalled the boat? You decide. That is my opinion and what I argued in the protest meeting. I won the protest.

Papoose was repaired. A wood mast was replaced with a much superior Ballenger mast and boom. The pushpit was replaced at Svendsen's. They did a great job. Steve Hutchinson did a great job of repairing the hull damage. All in all, the insurance covered the repairs and Papoose was happy. It took eleven months.
